The installation of the Rev. Percy Wyndham Earee to the cure of souls at St. Matthew's, Masterton, took place in the Church last evening, the Venerable Archdeacon Fancourt, of Wellington, the Bishop's Commissary, performing the ceremony. There were three other visiting clergymen present, viz., Rev. W Ballachey (Carterton), Rev. Mr Young (Foxton), and the Rev. H. F. Hunt (Palmerston North).

The congregation was only a moderate-size one and the collection, which was taken up in aid of the fund for increasing the seating of the Church, did not realise what had been anticipated, only £7 1s 3d being collected. Other amounts have been given by one or two who were unable to attend which had brought the total to about £10.

A very interesting, appropriate and forcible sermon, was preached by the Rev. Mr Hunt, during the course of which he said he had known Mr Earee from a child. He hoped the parishioners would do all their power to assist in making the ministrations of their new pastor successful. He deprecated the action of those who, when they had a little difference with regard to Church matter, rushed with letters to the newspaper instead of first meeting their pastor and discussing the question with him. When some things had been said or done by their clergyman that were not quite in accordance with the ideas of some people, it was a common practice to go into the street and say "I don't like that man," when by meeting the clergyman and having a few words of explanation the best of good fellowship could be maintained.
